This class will give you guidance to mend and lightly alter the clothes you have to make better use in your wardrobe. Please bring no more than 3 articles of clothing to mend, we will do our best to complete them all and give you the skills and confidence to tackle your mending pile at home.

I can help with -

  • Patching holes

  • Crotch repair

  • Hemming

  • Shortening or lengthening garments

  • Replacing or strengthening buttons

  • Repairing dropped hems and ripped seams

Important things to note -

Some projects may require more time and attention than can be given during this mending session. If we’re unable to work on a garment during this session I can give ideas and guidance as to potential repair or alteration methods. If a project is doable but needs more time you are welcome to book a private lesson to work on in a separate session.

Mending and altering your garments often requires methods that are visible - if you are new to visible mending this can be an adjustment! This is a great opportunity to let your creativity reign and explore adding a unique flair to your clothes while extending their life outside of the landfill.

  • Our classes are on a tight schedule in order to make the best use of your time. All classes start promptly 5 minutes after the posted start time. If you will be late please let me know ahead of time via email or text; you may miss some information at the start of class and I will do my best to get you caught up. Please do what you can to ensure you are at the studio on time :)

  • If you are sick or have a known exposure prior to class, please reach out via email as soon as possible to cancel your booking for a full refund, no questions asked. At Dottie Sews it’s important we do our part to minimize the spread of all illnesses and provide an accessible space for all sewists.

At this time I am currently not requiring masks however this is subject to change based on local infection rates. If you would like to request a masked private lesson, please add a comment to your booking and I am happy to accommodate.

  • Life happens, I get it! Whether it’s an emergency (hope everything’s ok!) or a scheduling slip-up it’s no biggie at Dottie Sews.

If you need to cancel one week or more in advance of the start date you have the option of receiving a full refund or store credit towards a future class which never expires.

If you need to cancel between a week to 48 hours in advance of the start time, you will receive a store credit that can be used for a future workshop or private lesson.

If you need to cancel within 48 hours of the class start time please let us know ASAP and I will do my best to get the spot filled. If I am able to fill the seat you will receive a full store credit for future use. If I am unable to fill the seat, you will receive a 50% store credit for future use.

There is no guarantee that I will be able to fill your seat within such a short notice but you are welcome to find someone to take your place as an alternative.
